Outstanding Dental Care Begins At Home

The care your family provides their teeth daily is instrumental in keeping their smiles healthy, and avoiding the complications poor oral hygiene leads to. At a minimum, the American Dental Association recommends brushing teeth twice a day. Make sure toothbrushes are in good condition- if a toothbrush is worn down, it will not provide the cleaning power it was meant to and should be replaced. Use a modest amount of toothpaste and begin brushing, focusing on the outer surfaces, inner surfaces, and chewing surfaces of your teeth. Be sure to give extra attention to the gum-line, and around crowns and fillings. Brushing the tongue can help to freshen breath. After two whole minutes, spit out the toothpaste and rinse your mouth (please monitor any young children to be sure they're not using too much toothpaste and/or swallowing).

After your teeth have been brushed, they should be flossed, at least once a day, to remove any food particles stuck in-between the teeth. Take a length of floss and gently clean the spaces on the sides of your teeth, even those not touching another tooth. Regular flossing will keep your family's gums healthy, preventing gingivitis and other gum diseases that, besides giving their smiles an unhealthy appearance, can lead to tooth loss.

Through regular brushing and flossing, your family can help prevent the majority of dental ailments and keep their smiles shining!
